The Right Companion
This is an old project, but I thought it turned out nicely. My sister loves Doctor Who and since she is entertaining, adorable and a bit eccentric, there's no doubt in my mind that she'd be the perfect companion for the Doctor. IF you know what I mean. Heh, heh. Companion.
Java Gingerbread
I'm still tinkering around a bit with food photography and lighting and all that, so please bear with me as I perfect my technique *sniffs snootily and samples a soupcon of snuff*. As usually happens, last night I got a bit antsy and started looking around for something to bake. My sister chose this recipe. I'm really rather glad that she did. Any baked goods I tend to make nowadays generally get sent either into a) our cookie jar or b) the hungry mouths of Piper's starving, sleep deprived architecture cohort. "It's a lot like giving to the needy," observed my good friend Ben Kruger-Robbins after dropping off the leftovers from our end-of-semester party at her architecture studio. The half-empty bags of Doritos were being set upon like wounded baby zebras by a pack of wild dogs.

One Man's Leather Jacket...
Deciding that this year's Masquerade Ball outfit was going to be Steampunk-y on my end was a pretty simple decision. But the thing that really clinched it was the prospect of making a really sweet-ass leather jacket for Peter to wear onstage--I mean, the guys were opening for Blackalicious at a Masquerade Ball. Come on. For those who don't know him, Peter is not a "ripped-tank, funnel-the-groupies-in-my-direction" sort of musician. He's the "get unjustifiably excited at the mention of a B7th-diminished chord" sort of musician. I am under the impression that for years his bandmates have tried (unsuccessfully) to get him into something other than a t-shirt or button-down onstage. And I, dear reader, have triumphed where lesser fellows have faltered. I created that leather jacket. And boy, did he look good.

A Boy's Best Friend is His...Dog?
Here's the scenario: Christmas is approaching (okay, fine, it was September, but Christmas was still approaching). You're dating a wonderful young man. You're spending Christmas with his family in Wyoming. You want to give him something meaningful, unique. What do you do? Give him a beer hat? Another University of Oregon sweatshirt (go Ducks)? A certificate of appreciation? No. The trick is to make him a picture of the one thing he might like even more than you: his dogs.

Prepping for Prom
January is admittedly sort of a ridiculous time of year to already be thinking about prom. Ridiculous, dear reader, is just the way I roll.
You see, after a wonderful winter break back in Portland with all my friends (and following a furiously crafty couple of months getting presents ready for people), things felt a bit empty back here in Austin without something to work on. I'd been toying around with ideas for the next big event I'd be going to back in Portland, which is Just People's (my boyfriend Peter's band's) prom. It's prom. But for grown ups. Sponsored by a whiskey company. Wahoo! Everyone makes super good decisions at this prom, let me tell you.
